On Apple's iPad 2...

Despite Microsoft's early efforts since early 2000 through the Windows Tablet PC, the tablet personal computer can never seem to pick up. However, the trend was changed in 2009 when Apple released the iPad, which is the first true successful tablet -- Steve Jobs even claims that Apple today has 90% share of the tablet computing market! 2011 is marked by a boom of new tablet products, most of which are running Google's Android OS. With the release of iPad 2 though, Apple maintains its significance... with a price to beat!

In the first week of March 2011, Apple unveiled the iPad 2 which boasts of a dual-core A5 processor and enhanced graphics capabilities in a lighter and thinner form factor. The iPad 2 features two cameras and HDMI support as well. Now available in black and white, the entry level iPad 2 will be sold at the same price as the when the original iPad came out last year. Meanwhile, the price tag for the first generation iPad dropped by $100.

Gartner predicts PCs to sell slower this year as more people get enticed to ride the tablet/slate's growing popularity. The focus has shifted! Although there are opportunities for PC, tablets/slates are expected to grow faster and quite significantly this year.

Google Android has garnered humongous support from various tablet manufacturers in 2011. I think that these manufacturers should make lowering the price of their Android devices a priority. Motorola overpriced Xoom. Some even think that the Xoom's price tag is its obituary. Now that the iPad 2 is out with more or less the same promises as the Xoom, but at a much cheaper price tag, how could Motorola compete now? Are there manufacturers ready to take on the challenge?
