Digg and Reddit offer social news services. Digg got in to a lot of trouble in 2010 since they released version 4, criticized by Reddit's Alexis Ohanian to be a victim of VC meddling that departed Digg from its core.

You might be tempted to check out http://blog.facebook.com but because Facebook is down, what do you expect? Meanwhile, people post their status through Twitter (or on other social networking accounts) about Facebook being down.

The first online social networking that I tried was sixdegrees.com . That was over 10 years ago. Unfortunately, it was too far ahead of its time. The Internet then was more focused in proprietary content, e-commerce and everything related to making money so a social networking at that time was not seen with much potential.
