Idea No. 10: Build and Create with Solar Panels

We've seen roofs with or made of solar panels. We've seen solar panel glass windows. We've seen solar panel driveways. We've seen solar panel roads. How about solar panel buildings, bridges, houses, parking lots, etc.? We've seen them once or twice. We heard or read about them once or twice. But why aren't they everywhere?

Imagine all roads, driveways and parking lots built with solar power harnessing materials. Imagine all bridges and docks with solar panels. Imagine all buildings and houses with walls, windows and roofs capable of gathering solar power for everyone. Imagine every man-made constructions, surfaces and structures contributing solar energy to the grid.

Elon Musk launched a company that sells solar roofing materials. We can actually have solar panels in varying shapes, sizes and textures! This should be everywhere!

Windows? All glass building? Use transparent solar panels. You get the same aesthetic but their also extra functional. This should be standard already.

All parking lots and driveways should have solar panel on them, if not the paving themselves, then at least those popular structures that collect solar power and provide shade to the parked cars at the same time. This should be a requirement already.

Most of the time, roads and sidewalks are always just exposed to the sun. All of them should be made with solar panel materials and add to the grid.

What if, we can spray all existing structures and outward facing materials with a special nano technology that can instantly convert their surfaces to "solar panels". The National Science Foundation talked about it way back in 2011. How far has this R&D gone? Why can't this be applied on everything everywhere already?

Frankly, it's frustrating that we know how much energy we can get from the sun and yet we still don't do everything we can to harness them. Isn't it enough that we want them in order to be motivated? Do we have to wait until we actually need them? What's keeping us or slowing us down?
