Imagining IoT of the Future

In a world where everything connects to a cloud hosted OS, IoT can be cheaper and simpler. The real focus is fast and reliable networking, because everything really happens in the cloud.

For as long as something can connect to the cloud, it can synchronize with everything else that it needs to integrate with.

There is no need for a refrigerator to have a full pledge PC built-in, for example. It only needs a display that can connect to the owner's session in the cloud hosted OS, defaulting to the refrigerator app.

There is no such thing as a smart TV. Any display can be a TV, with the "TV" part of it basically an app in the owner's cloud hosted OS. That said, any display is a PC. Depending on the display's size and features, the UI/UX will be rendered appropriately.

Appliances and fixtures can all connect to the cloud and launch their default apps and services as needed. Home security? Cloud. Utility meters? Cloud. Photo frame? Cloud. Alarm clock? Cloud. Robotic lawn mower? Cloud.

Cars? Oh, boy! If it can connect to the owner's cloud hosted OS session for it's computing extras like navigation, entertainment and communications, then it can participate in the user's overall IoT network as well. Imagine the house automatically setting the right temperature just at the right time after you instruct the car to drive you home. You can check the refrigerator app if there's anything needed from the groceries. As the car approaches the house, the garage opens just at the right time for you to drive in without stopping to wait. Even the music in the car continues in the house.

There is no more division in IoT by brand, technology and what not. For as long as their apps can be setup in the cloud hosted OS, they can all easily integrate with everything else that the owner owns. No special appliance needed. All you need is the cloud hosted OS for everything.
