Why 3D TVs?

Since the TV was commercialized in the 1930s, it had always been in 2D: from black&white to colored, from CRT to flats, from mono to stereo to surround sounds, and now, some 80 years later, we have 3D TVs commercialized. If you think about it, 20 years down the road, 3D TVs could be just as ordinary as 2D was in the previous century.

Although the 3D experience right now depends on 3D glasses, the experience is still amazingly engaging and immersing! In the near future, we should see those 3D glasses go away as 3D glass-free screens get perfected. I could already imagine a very 3D Time Square in NY!

One of the best 3D contents are the 3D games. Full 3D CGI can make full use of the 3D effects that all gamers would absolutely love. My kids tried out a demo at a mall and you could really see how much the kids enjoyed the experience. Duck, dodge, block, laugh... (high-pitched) awesome!

3D TVs are as new as the TVs were in the 1930s. We can only do so much with 2D. I think that 3D TVs are the way to go. Unless the 3D glasses go away, though, it might actually take longer than 100 years until 2D TV would be a thing of the past.

If you're skeptical and asking "Why 3D TVs?" Well... it's about time, that's why. But hold on to your wallets! Right now, extra 3D glasses can cost from $75 to a whopping $350 a pair! Even if the 3D TVs are sold with 2 pairs of 3D glasses out of the box, that's still up to $1000 more for a family of 5! And since the 3D glasses are not standard across brands, I'd say good luck to hosting movie and game nights with friends.

Honestly, 3D TVs are still nice to haves. Bachelors should love it. But for a family man like me, I am willing to wait until those costly glasses disappear and/or until the price truly makes its value. Meanwhile, I'll stick with my good old reliable 2D TV.
