2011, BlackBerry and As I See Tech

I just realized that more than six years ago, As I See Tech kinda, sorta predicted BlackBerry's trouble.

In January 30, 2011, As I See Tech published the article "Is Blackberry Losing Ground in 2011?"

Of course, the article and the graphs referenced were not conclusive. It was just the start of the year after all. In the rest of 2011, however, BlackBerry got so many unfavorable "signs", with the outage in October 2011 regarded as the worst and, perhaps, the most damaging of all to BlackBerry's reputation.

True enough, BlackBerry was struggling to win against the fast-growing iPhone and Android dominance at that time. At a certain point, BlackBerry even tried to ride the bandwagon and provided Android apps support in their products. They even started offering the BlackBerry Messenger as an app for iOS, Android and, later, for Windows Phone.

As it turned out, since that As I See Tech article got published in early 2011, it actually took a couple more years before BlackBerry absolutely and definitely slipped downhill. In 2013, Windows Phone overtook BlackBerry, putting the iPhone, Android and Windows Phone at the top 3 spots for mobile OSes.

In early 2017, BlackBerry's 0.0% market share status, c/o a Gartner report, was almost not news at all. Well, considering, not even Windows Mobile's 75% decline in sales Q42015 vs. Q42016 was news -- but then again, should we even be surprised?

I wonder what was happening back in February this year? I could usually keep track of things like this. Super Bowl LI nostalgia? I was probably busy. Or maybe the world was busy. Or maybe, the universe doesn't really care anymore.
