Experience with YouTube Leanback

Have you tried YouTube Leanback? It's like YouTube on steroids! You visit the page, let it load and then you can just lean back as streams of videos are played automatically one after the other.

You use the keyboard to navigate. Categorized content are shown when you press the Down arrow key. Shown also is a playlist of videos that it would play. I suggest that you navigate the list using the mouse because the Left and Right arrow keys seem confusing to use (Are the left and right arrow keys to navigate the list? Or to reverse and fast forward? Or both at the same time? Hope YouTube reviews this).

Perhaps what's really beautiful is the integrated search. Press the up button (or just start typing) and you get a standard search form at the top of the screen. The search results are grouped in to its own "category" and listed in line with the category list at the bottom of the screen. In effect, it allows you to create your own playlist. Try typing in the name of your favorite YouTube show and be entertained just the way you like it... leaning back on your favorite couch as videos play on and on just like watching TV.

YouTube Leanback has minimal features available for social networking. You can vote for the current video and that's about it. If you want to share the video to your friends, for example, you have to click on the YouTube logo to load the current video in YouTube's standard page format. The good consolation is that it opens to a new window/tab.

Overall, the experience is pleasant. Besides the problem with the left and right arrow keys, the screen design is simple and intuitive. It's a full Internet TV experience in your browser but, of course, streaming only YouTube content. Give it a try! It's way more fun than clicking around.
