Part 1: Can Technology Really Make Our Life Simpler?

The cordless phone proved to be a hit! There's no need to rush to the phone anymore. You could reach for a phone as soon as it rang. You could reach for a phone almost the same instant you felt like calling someone. You could reach for the phone while cleaning the car in the garage. Your friends could wake you up at 2 AM for a late night party invite simply by calling your phone in the bedroom. It was convenient. It was like your world just got smaller. Or did you get bigger?

Well, the living room was not getting bigger after all. With four cordless phones in the house, the house showed its true size... it was actually smaller than you thought. Now that the phone is within reach wherever you are in the house, or even outside in the garden or in the backyard, you came to a realization that would humble you forever: there were just too many phones in the house. Meanwhile, you could hear all four phones ringing at the same time...

Still, the phone stayed at home. The limited range of the cordless phone meant you still needed to be where you last put it. Even when the digital models came out, it was still the same. Ranges increased up to your neighbor's house. But the range was not enough for your needs. One time, you were disillusioned to think the signal was still available at the corner store half a mile away from your home. Or even from the mall which was actually 5 miles away. But you carried the unit anyway, just in case, by some gush of wind, the signal would reach you somehow. You were not half crazy to wish for it. Sooner than later, the day would come when your prayers would be answered... far better than you ever imagined.

Next thing you know, the cellular phones arrived. It was the answer to all your needs. You wanted a phone that you could carry anywhere. You wanted something that really had a signal even if you were far away from home. You wanted a phone that could be as mobile as you were. The cellular phone was far better than you imagined. The range was not just within your neighborhood. The signal was not just in the places you know. The cellular phone service had nationwide coverage! Needless to say, you wasted no time to getting for yourself your first ever cellular phone.

You could make calls anywhere and anytime. You could receive calls anywhere and anytime. You could do everything and still have your phone with you. It was awesome! You had the power to communicate in your hands. A call here and a call there, you were making noise! Everyone envied your cellular phone. They also wanted one for themselves. It was not only you who wanted to call anywhere and anytime. There were many of you. In no time, almost everyone had it and then it was no longer as hot as it was the first time. Everyone was making noise... literally.
